No, I certainly don’t think all the John McCain supporters are vicious racists, slack-jawed idiots believing the Earth is only 6,000 years old or people that regard Social Darwinism as the most sublime philosophy in human history.
But an awful lot of them subscribe to some of these views. Thanks to video, You Tube, and all the rest we have the striking, sometimes dismal, evidence. McCain’s campaign all too often has deliberately appealed to the lowest common denominator.
Many foreign observers of the U.S. have stated that America probably has the best chance of reinventing itself, striking out in new directions, and developing new ideas. More than ever I fervently hope this is still true.
We are going to have to look at significant changes in our country and entirely new ways of doing things. Only a fool could think this transformation will be easy.
We also have millions of Americans that fear—and hate—these changes, for any number of reasons. But changes must occur; losing as they say is not an option. George Monbiot offers, I believe, a succinct viewpoint of the “why” ignorance has been so pervasive. Go to The Triumph of Ignorance: How Morons Succeed in U.S. Politics.

George Bush, Socialist
I was really kind of hoping this wouldn't come out until January 21st, but events have overtaken the need to protect the US Taxpayers from the truth.
The fact of the matter is that the current federal income tax rate is (gasp) progressive.
2003 -
2008
10% (less than $8,025)
15% (less than $32,550)
25% (less than $78,850)
28% (less than $164,550)
33% (less than $357,700)
35% (above $357,700)
So, as you can see, George Bush even as you read this is "re-distributing wealth". This means he is a Socialist. This is why he was elected in the first place and won his re-election bid, by bribing the less well off with the increased taxation of the wealthy...at least in the minds of some.
so buying vote with other
so buying vote with other peoples money isn't appealing to the lowest common denomonator? please
"so"
I'm not sure I understand what you're saying exactly, but I now support public financing certainly at the presidential level, along with a shortened campaign season.
when a candidate clearly
when a candidate clearly states that they are going to raise taxes on a small percentage of income earners to pass out that money to others, that is no different than buying votes with other peoples money.
