As I watched the climate change/energy debate play itself out in the House of Representatives and listen to the various factions gearing up for the health care “fight,” I find that I can juggle two very different opinions at the same time, well almost at the same time.
The fact that we're now publicly talking about climate change in a serious way, contemplating a new energy paradigm, and even considering that our health care system might be a colossal sick joke is quite remarkable when we just look back at say this time last year, when benightedness was the operating American ideology. Yes national elections may still matter in the United States.
At the same time the rot and the corruption in this country are very deep; after all, the folks that want nothing to change or long for the return of some mythical past, have been working hard for the past thirty years to insure its success.
Two articles well worth reading, regardless of whether or not you agree with everything being said, highlight the depth of mendacity, greed, and disregard of anything that might resemble a commitment to the country at large.
Of particular interest is the opinion offered on cap & trade by Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone Magazine. The second article appears in Asia Times and was written by Julian Delasantellis.
We are not going to succeed by tinkering around the edges or attempting to rebuild the same old termite infested house. Go to The Great American Bubble Machine and Cheating Still Beats Real Work.
