History of Power

I've made so many mistakes.
(James Jesus Angleton, one time chief of CIA Counterintelligence Staff)

The article I read yesterday asked the question, would Obama end up being a “failed” war president or the “prince” of peace? We will of course eventually find out how much prince, how much peace, and how much failure there is in our current president.

The Mississippi Trashing

The historical power of the agriculture lobby over many years, coupled with useless state legislators and Washington policymakers not willing to confront benightedness, has led to the serious deterioration of our waterways and spreading dead zones.

Want a Toaster?

The stupidity of a remarkable number in the U.S. Congress keeps on giving.

Four congressmen, two from Arizona and two from the center of enlightenment, Georgia and North Carolina, are concerned because Muslims are lobbying Congress. What! Muslim-Americans want to participate in our political system?

Dean Obeidallah, an Arab-American comedian, offers his strategy to control America.

Working at Change

On October 24 people across the globe will be supporting various events, rallies, and demonstrations, in order to bring awareness about climate change.

The number that is signifying this global event is 350, which means that climate scientists are now saying that we need to reduce carbon dioxide emissions below 350 parts per million, if we wish to have a planet that our children and grandchildren can recognize and survive on. For information on this event see 350.

Needing An Electrician

Olivia Judson, evolutionary biologist, has suggested that our “wired” brains might not have caught up to the 21st century. It is also one way, it seems to me, to understand our reaction (or lack of) to climate change.

We perhaps ought to be more afraid of mosquitoes, but Judson points out that it's “bears” that frighten us, because that's what has scared us for thousands of years. It's immediate.

1.2 Billion Elephants

While Al Gore's presentation at TED was given in March of 2008 and the campaign comments are obviously dated, the ideas are not out-of-date.

Gore asked a couple of questions at this conference. One: Does solving the democracy crisis come first? Two: Does mobilizing political will come before mobilizing resources?

So what has transpired in America since March of 2008? How would we answer Al Gore's two questions 14 months later? See Warming.

With Only Sand

This remarkable talent is from the Ukraine. According to some of the comments a few of the drawings refer to soldiers who never returned from wars, including the struggle against the Nazis.

Adapt or Die

While the climate denial nonsense is certainly irritating at the very least, especially when it comes from the likes of fossil fuel barons and political buffoons such as U.S. Senator James Inhoff, we can't waste our time with the assorted yahoos or members of the flat earth society.

It means that more of us have to get in the game, be a lot smarter, and realize that the average politician in Washington, D.C. is not going to make the necessary changes without a great deal of constant pressure.
