Story of the NIF

An excellent presentation for both children and adults. How do we get to a clean energy future? Could we actually build the "sun" on the earth. Is it possible to discover the holy grail of harnessing fusion energy?

The National Ignition Facility thinks it is. Edward Moses, associate director of the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory, presents the possibilities. This is approximately 58 minutes long.

Making the Invisible Visible

If we think health care reform is hard … we ain't seen anything yet. President Obama and Chinese president Hu Juntao gave their “climate change” speeches at the U.N. on Tuesday.

China and the United States account for 40 percent of carbon emissions on this planet yet, while acknowledging the seriousness of climate change, both leaders really offered very few concrete proposals.

The Chinese president talked about reducing “carbon intensity” and said his country would slash future emissions by a “notable” margin. So what did he specifically promise?

The Supreme Hustler

Maybe it really is possible in America to almost fool all the people almost all of the time.

Dick Armey, the former Republican House Majority Leader in the 1990s, is living proof that a slick political operative can run the supreme con on a great many Americans. Armey, after all, helped Newt Gingrich some fifteen years ago put together the “Contract with America,” a very clever Potemkin Village.

Gathering Climate Pieces

Tomorrow many of the major industrialized countries are meeting in New York to discuss climate change. This is of course leading up to a new climate change agreement to be signed in Copenhagen, Denmark in December.

At this point there are numerous reasons to be pessimistic about the world community coming together to sign any substantive agreement this December.

Seemingly no country wants to be the first to implement the actual plan that addresses the targeted greenhouse gas reduction goals, goals which certainly many European countries have strongly supported.
