Lessons Never Learned

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
(George Santayana)

The death this week of Robert Strange McNamara, former Secretary of Defense under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson, went almost unnoticed. Of course I've always thought that we Americans were not very good at understanding the past, at least any past more than ten years old.

America's Gangster State

As I watched the climate change/energy debate play itself out in the House of Representatives and listen to the various factions gearing up for the health care “fight,” I find that I can juggle two very different opinions at the same time, well almost at the same time.
